Semblature is on Steam

Semblature has a public page on Steam as of today, with a wishlist button on it: Semblature: A Deduction Game.

What's on it

Eight new screenshots from a September build, showing rows, trays, rings and the wheel, plus two of the instruments you pick up later. The description says what the game is and what it will never ask of you. Further down the page there is an itemised account of where AI tools are and aren't used. The longer version of that lives at semblature.com/ai.html.

Steam lists it for April 2027. The price will be $4.99.

The dates moved

The last post here gave a calendar: Steam Next Fest in October, a demo ahead of it, and launch in December. None of that happened, and I said I would say so openly when something slipped.

Valve sent the store page back once, over links in the page text. I fixed the one they pointed at and missed a second, so it needed another round of review, and that round finished after registration for the October fest had closed. There is no waitlist for that, so October was gone.

A game only gets one Next Fest. Rather than rush a demo out without it, I took the extra months. Launch is now planned for April 2027, with a free demo before that. I have not decided about the February fest yet. That call gets made in January, once the demo exists and people have played it.

Other people have played it

In September three friends played a build on a Steam Deck. That was the first time anyone other than me had touched it.

The main thing they told me was that new mechanics needed better explanations when they first show up. The broken unit was a point of confusion at first. It also led to the moment where it suddenly made sense, which is the moment I'm building the game around, so the idea stays and the teaching gets reworked.

One change is already in. Handing in a wrong answer used to clear the bench and start it over. Now it leaves everything exactly where you put it.

Friends are kind, and three is a small number. Strangers come next.

If you want to hear when the demo and the game arrive, wishlisting it is how Steam knows to tell you.
